Ways to give back to the community

Every year hundreds of dedicated volunteers contribute their time, energy, skills and hearts in support of The Exodus Foundation. People volunteer for different reasons – many have a strong sense of community and a desire to give something back.

Our volunteer support means that we can continue to minimise our costs and be more efficient and effective in providing the best possible service to our guests. We simply could not operate without these special people.

Individuals as well as schools, community groups and businesses can all join our team of volunteers. Volunteers help by preparing and serving meals in our Loaves & Fishes Free Restaurant, from our lunch van in Sydney’s West and our dinner van in Sydney’s CBD. Individuals also assist behind the scenes to provide invaluable administrative assistance as well as support in our Social, Health & Wellbeing centre.

Volunteering has improved my well-being – I feel happier and healthier. If you invest the time and energy to volunteer, you are investing in yourself just as much as in the causes you support.

Schools & community groups

The Exodus Foundation is proud to provide a meaningful volunteer experience for schools and community groups.

Group volunteering opportunities involve helping with our lunch service in the Loaves & Fishes Free Restaurant.

Group shifts are designed to give volunteers a holistic experience of restaurant operations. Each shift starts with a site induction, after which volunteers are allocated to a range of roles according to the restaurant’s needs. This can include food preparation, restaurant set-up, food and beverage service, the creation of emergency food parcels and cleaning.

We can accommodate groups of up to 10 people at a time. Groups of volunteers aged 14 – 18 must be accompanied by at least one adult.
