Sydney will shine on Christmas Day as hundreds of volunteers serve Christmas lunch to thousands of struggling families and homeless people at The Exodus Foundation.

It’s Sydney’s biggest free Christmas lunch for the poor and homeless. It is also a Sydney Christmas tradition. In fact this year marks the 32nd anniversary of The Exodus Foundation’s famous Christmas Day lunch!

But Christmas is all about family and at The Exodus Foundation that’s especially so. According to Rev. Bill Crews, CEO and founder of The Exodus Foundation, “Everyone’s made to feel like family at our Christmas Day lunch, no matter how lonely they feel”.

Up to 3,000 hot Christmas lunches will be served by hundreds of caring volunteers under a big festive marquee at The Exodus Foundation in Ashfield. It takes a lot of preparation. In fact the chefs have been cooking for days. More than 70 hams, 55 turkeys and half a tonne of veggies all needed to be roasted. There were also 3,000 mini-puddings that had to be baked!

“What really makes Christmas day at The Exodus Foundation so great is the loving kindness on display. Like the man with no arms who was lovingly fed by two of our volunteer ladies. They gently spooned food into his mouth. He rewarded them by telling jokes as they tittered into their hankies!”, said Rev. Crews.

Of course Santa will make an appearance too! He’ll give presents to kids from struggling families.

This year The Exodus Foundation looks set to have its biggest Christmas lunch ever because more and more Sydneysiders are struggling to make ends meet. There are more rough sleepers. There are more battlers. There are more lonely people. They all find a caring Christmas family waiting with open arms at The Exodus Foundation.
