Santa has gifts for the most needy kids

Imagine being so poor you couldn’t afford toys for the kids at Christmas. It’s something that more and more parents face. Thankfully their children can get gifts from Santa at The Exodus Foundation. On Christmas Day Santa and his helpers will be on hand to give presents to kids from the most needy families. All the gifts are donated and there’s still time to give. Cooking for a family of thousands

Cooking for a family of thousands

You might be cooking for a family of 10 or 20 on Christmas Day, but imagine cooking for thousands! That’s exactly what our chefs at The Exodus Foundation do. They’ve been planning for months and the preparations begin weeks before the big day. More than 70 hams, 55 turkeys and half a tonne of veggies all need to be roasted. Of course there’ll be Christmas puddings too and it all happens thanks to the support of kind people like you! ...

Meet some of our wonderful volunteer heros

Meet some of our wonderful volunteer heroes

Our big Christmas Day lunch for the homeless and needy couldn’t happen without the dedicated help of our volunteers. People like John and Sandra Vicars. They have been volunteering at The Exodus Foundation for 17 years! A whole team of volunteers will join them on Christmas Day. They’ll help in the kitchen, serve the meals and show guests to their seats. Sometimes they’ll  even comfort those who are missing loved ones. Many others volunteer before and after the big day. They sort food...

Our new food van enters service

The Exodus Foundation’s brand new food van began serving meals to Sydney’s homeless last month. It enables even more hot dinners to be given to the large number of hungry rough sleepers. “Our new food van is great news for the increasing number of homeless people and enables us to meet the growing demand”, said Rev. Bill Crews. “It’s like a big, early Christmas present for the rough sleepers of Sydney!” ...

There is still time to give

There is still time to donate to our big Christmas Appeal. Thousands of needy Sydneysiders rely on your support. Without it they face a bleak Christmas. If you donate, our Exodus Foundation family can give them a great Christmas lunch. We can buy the tonnes of food we need, we can run our kitchens overtime and set up our big Christmas marquee. All this can happen when Sydneysiders embrace the spirit of the season and donate to our Christmas Appeal. Please donate...

Imagine going from hospital bed to a park bench.

Imagine going from hospital bed to a park bench

The homeless are very susceptible to illness. Sadly, many who are hospitalised are hit with a double-blow when discharged with nowhere to go. Hospitals routinely discharge the homeless without good arrangements for accommodation or care. One recent case highlights their plight. A homeless man was hospitalised with broken ribs after a fall. “He had poor mobility, hepatitis C and liver disease”, explained Rev. Crews. “After treatment for the ribs he was discharged. The only accommodation offered was a written list of boarding...

Our volunteer dentist makes miles of smiles.

Our volunteer dentist makes miles of smiles

When a homeless person first visits us their teeth are often so bad we have to grind up their meals. That’s why we offer free emergency dental treatment to the poor and homeless. Every Wednesday our volunteer dentist does fillings, extractions and even provides dentures. It means our guests can eat properly, which improves their nutrition and overall health. Demand is high. In fact our volunteer dentist now comes on Friday mornings too, but it’s worth it to see our guests new...

Restoring their dignity.

Restoring their dignity

Thanks to you we can give dignity to the homeless. Every morning we have hot showers for them so they can get clean. On Tuesdays a mobile laundry service visits The Exodus Foundation so they can wash their clothes. And once a fortnight our volunteer hairdresser snips and shapes the hair of our most needy guests. It’s all part of our commitment to providing a holistic range of care services to our guests. It restores their dignity and puts them on...
