The spirit of Christmas will shine at The Exodus Foundation today as hundreds of volunteers serve lunch to thousands of struggling families and homeless people.

It is the biggest free Christmas lunch for the poor and homeless in Sydney. This year also marks the 32nd anniversary of The Exodus Foundation’s famous Christmas Day lunch. It’s a Sydney tradition!

According to Rev. Bill Crews, CEO and founder of The Exodus Foundation, Christmas is all about family – especially at The Exodus Foundation. “Everyone’s made to feel like family at our Christmas Day lunch, no matter how lonely they feel”.

It all happens under a big festive marquee at The Exodus Foundation in Ashfield. Up to 3,000 hot Christmas lunches will be served by hundreds of caring volunteers. The needy will eat their way through 70 hams, 55 turkeys, half a tonne of veggies and 3,000 mini-puddings!

Every one of the thousands of needy people who share The Exodus Foundation Christmas lunch have a story. Like the little girl who lost her father during the year finding father-figures among the homeless guests. Like the man whose wife had died, but found new love at our Christmas lunch. And like the homeless kids who find a new family in our volunteers.

Of course Santa will be on hand too with presents for kids from struggling families too!

This year The Exodus Foundation looks set to have its biggest Christmas lunch ever because more and more Sydneysiders are struggling to make ends meet. There are more rough sleepers. There are more battlers. There are more lonely people. They all find a caring Christmas family waiting with open arms at The Exodus Foundation.
